Due to a lack of robust institutional and systemic support from the state within this sector, my country's instrumentation industry suffers from a shortage of high-caliber, multidisciplinary talent-specifically, professionals who are well-versed in and proficient at integrating knowledge across various intersecting disciplines. Consequently, the industry exhibits weak independent innovation capabilities and a scarcity of proprietary intellectual property. This deficiency is concretely manifested in a severe shortage of domestically produced high-end automation products and a lack of strong market competitiveness.
Modern metrology represents the highly integrated convergence of optics, mechanics, electronics, computing, and numerous fundamental scientific disciplines. Highly sensitive to technological advancements, it is one of the industrial sectors characterized by the most rapid product iteration cycles, with new products being introduced annually. Particularly in the current era of accelerating information technology development, competition is becoming increasingly fierce; even a slight lag in the pace of development risks leaving one far behind. Although my country has entered the 21st century, many aspects of its instrumentation sector remain at the technological level of the early 1980s. Large-scale and high-end instruments and equipment are almost entirely reliant on imports; indeed, for certain specialized instruments, the domestic market remains a complete void. Furthermore, significant challenges regarding quality assurance still need to be overcome in the production of mid-to-low-end products.
Therefore, bridging this gap requires strategic planning at the national level, coupled with substantial support in terms of relevant resources. Unless testing instrument manufacturers can achieve a significant scale of operations, they will struggle to acquire the strength necessary to compete head-to-head with global industry giants-a feat that, in its initial stages, demands massive and sustained long-term capital investment.
